Definitely need to dive deeper into resilience and examine its relationship with engineering practice and sustainable society. Consider that we need the following so that we can be resilient [1]. How could we integrate these into our design reasoning?
From Resilience Practice, four properties of resilient systems, the first three yield adaptability
- diversity
- modularity
- openness
- reserves
From the Stockholm Resilience Institute, two things resilient systems do
- manage connectivity
- broaden participation
From the Rockefeller Foundation, four properties of resilient systems
- robustness
- redundancy
- flexibility
- inclusiveness
From Resilience: why things bounce back, four things resilient systems do
- build regenerative capacity
- sense emerging risks
- respond to disruption
- learn and transform (feedback loops)
Do we all need reference copies of this book? I had to return it to our community public library today to allow another member of our community learn, too.
