2004 to 2011

InterCAD is a small civil engineering company that specializes in land development. With approximately 20 people in the primary office, the team dedicates its time to key long-term clients and long-term projects.

Working in the InterCAD team taught me the importance of frequent and regular checkpoints with your client and team. Shared vision and understanding only arise from frequent and regular dialogue about your work. Sharing progress is entirely independent of whether you need help.

Scrum and other agile methods codify and reinforce the idea of sharing progress. Sharing progress gives each of us in a team a chance to get updated information from teammates and adjust, or steer, our course towards achieving team objectives.

While in InterCAD, I designed and administered construction projects (small team, multiple specialist consultants) for 55 ha site on West Vancouver Upper Lands (of 215 ha hillside) spanning several projects:
