1998 to 2001

The Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition was a small group of cycling advocates who volunteered time and effort to raise awareness in the design community of the needs of people who use bicycles to get around. The VACC was one of several regional coalitions in Canada which brought the needs of active transportation to the attention of municipal governments and provincial highway authorities. The VACC evolved into Hub Cycling by 2012.

The coalitions also offered rider courses to assist people who wanted to use their bikes as primary transportation, including in the dark, wet and unforgiving conditions of west-coast winter.

Volunteering with the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition gave me new perspective on making room for active transportation in our streets and on our "roads."

As a director, I focused on education, communication, planning and accountability to help advance a fledgling transportation advocacy group (1998-2001). I assisted in developing and implementing our first update revision to the website and promotional brochure (1999-2001). I facilitated a rough start for internal long-range planning initiatives (2001).
