Buildings at Ports and Marine Terminals
Lockley Lot Upgrade Study
Public Service Procurement Canada
Esquimalt, British Columbia, Canada - Virtual Visit
Acting Project Manager for feasibility study to define the cost and effort needed for a minor expansion to the building's parking lot. Jessé served as project manager and civil engineer for this design, which would build upon Stantec's original design for the building on the property.
Teamwork across locations
I learned how easy collaborating with a colleague local to the site could be for field reconnaissance.
Making deliveries less disruptive
Public Service Procurement Canada managing Esquimalt facilities wanted to have a spot for delivery vehicles that would allow tenants to come and go while also keeping accessible spaces clear. At the time, delivery vehicles used the accessible parking stalls. The client project manager needed to know whether the cost would fit in a budget opportunity that was likely to emerge as the fiscal year end approached.
We helped our client project manager work out a concept and estimated a probable opinion of cost.
The site has a dry-baked grassy area at the southeast corner that has enough room for a medium single unit vehicle. The major costs arise from installing a short retaining wall and dealing with the building's existing water connection.
Constraints included
- respecting neighbour on east side
- using a grass-reinforced surface instead of asphalt
- avoiding impact on tight parking area
Returning to a fondly remembered home
This was the first time I could turn my attention intently to Esquimalt since the brief time I lived there in 1981.
